Strong name. Stronger warranty.
Tiffin has a strong reputation in our industry. Bob Tiffin started the company in the ‘70s and you can still walk up to his office everyday and talk to him. The company is family owned and operated and, in my personal opinion, offers one of the best manufacturer’s warranties around. Tiffin is so sure of their product that they offer a 5-year delamination warranty and a 10-year construction warranty. Put it this way—I have a 1997 Tiffin Allegro Bus and you can drive that coach 200-300 miles and not hear a rattle. Tiffin just builds a solid motorhome.

The lay of the land

The Phaeton just has great interior design. Tiffin uses a really nice wood called alder wood as a standard, which combines with the lighting for a warm feel and homelike decor. Tiffin is innovative and is an industry leader in offering things like full tile floors. The Phaeton is really one of the first coaches to do that at this price point. This coach has a bath and a half, which is great when you have guests over and they don’t have to go through your bedroom to get to the bathroom. It also has a mid-ship TV. A big change in the RV industry occurred over the last 2-3 years. Mid-ship living utilizes the front driver and passenger chairs as a sitting area for you or your guests to watch a TV that’s in the middle of the coach.

In the kitchen, you have Corian countertops and a pullout island that offers even more counter space and storage. In the bedroom, there’s a king-size bed with a Sleep Number® air mattress. And in the bathroom, not only do you have enough room for two people, a full tile level floor, a push button flush toilet, and a full closet, but you also have dual sinks. Tiffin listens to their customers and now a lot of their customers have it nicer on the road than they do at home.

The comforts of home

You’ve heard of residential refrigerators. Traditionally, these were reserved for coaches at a much higher price point. Well, the Phaeton has a 22 cubic foot fridge with double doors and a pullout freezer. It’s a no-cost added feature. Another nice innovation is the computer workstation at the dinette. There’s a slide out tray for a laptop and a drawer underneath for printers or any other equipment. I wish I had that in my coach, but it wasn’t an option in 1997. When I’m on the road, my dinette is my workstation. So when it’s time to eat, I have to find a place to put my laptop. In the Phaeton, your computer already has a home. Another feature is the one-piece privacy screens that you see in high-end motor coaches. They add total privacy and cut down on the heat. Another standard the Phaeton has is what’s called a Magic Bed that folds out of your sofa. They’ve gone away from the jack-knife style fold out beds to the Magic Bed, which gives you about another 12–14 inches of sleep space. I have a magic bed in my coach and my friend who is about 6’3” tall and weighs 260 pounds can share the bed with his wife and sleep comfortably together on it. That just wouldn’t happen on a jack-knife bed.

HD everything

The Phaeton is pretty much fully equipped all the way around with GPS, navigation and in-motion satellite. This coach has four Panasonic TVs: one over head, one mid-ship, one in the bedroom, and an external flat screen inside the wall which doesn’t take up any of your bay space. The entire coach is HDMI wired, which pretty much gives you the best signal with today’s electronics. The home theater system is absolutely incredible—probably one of the best quality systems around. You have speakers throughout the living area, which give you a true surround sound experience. For the audio/visual lover, there’s nothing to want or need because from the satellite all the way down... it’s HD everything.

Built to last
When you talk about construction of the Phaeton, you have to remember that Tiffin now builds chassis, the side walls, and the cabinets. They even have their own glass company! The only things they don’t build are the components such as Panasonic TVs and Dometic appliances. One of the most impressive parts of this coach and all Tiffin coaches is the way their walls are constructed. They use a dual application called hydro-vac. It’s a process that applies pressure to a vacuum-sealed wall. That’s why they can offer a 5-year delamination warranty. They believe in their construction, the coach, and simply take great care of their customers.

The price is right

I really feel that for the dollar amount, this coach supersedes anything else in the industry. At 42 feet, this coach comes in well under $300,000. At Lazydays, we have service technicians that visit the Tiffin factory in Red Bay. They work with Tiffin’s research and development department and discuss the inner workings of the Tiffin coaches; so, when it comes time to service your Tiffin, the techs here are up to speed. This is the kind of coach that will make you loyal to a company like Tiffin. It has a great look and feel and a great use of space. The layouts are wonderful and at this price point, it’s hard to come close to what you’re going to get in this coach. I guess that’s why it’s the number one selling class A diesel motorhome in the RV industry.
